Safety Tips
Your safety is our top priority. Meetley is built to help you connect with real people in the real world — and we want every experience to be positive and safe. Please read these tips before attending your first event.
📍
Meet in public first
For your first meetup with someone new, always choose a public place — a café, park, or event venue. Avoid private locations until you've built trust.
👥
Bring a friend
You don't have to go alone. Invite a friend along to group events, especially the first time. There's safety and comfort in numbers.
📱
Tell someone your plans
Always let a trusted friend or family member know where you're going, who you're meeting, and when you expect to be back.
🔋
Keep your phone charged
Make sure your phone is charged before heading out. You'll need it for navigation, communication, and emergencies.
🚗
Arrange your own transport
Use your own transport or a trusted ride service. Don't rely on a stranger for a lift, especially on your first meeting.
🥤
Watch your drinks
At social events, never leave your drink unattended and don't accept drinks from people you don't know well.
🔒
Protect your personal info
Don't share your home address, workplace, or financial information with people you've just met on the app.
🤝
Trust your instincts
If something feels off, it probably is. You're never obligated to stay at an event or continue a conversation. Leave if you feel unsafe.
For trips and travel events
Group trips add extra considerations. Before joining a multi-day trip with people you've met online:
- Read the organiser's profile, ratings, and past event reviews
- Ask questions in the group chat before committing
- Share trip details (dates, locations, organiser's contact) with someone you trust at home
- Keep emergency contacts saved and easily accessible
- Have a backup plan — know the nearest hospital, embassy, or police station in the destination
- Never hand over large sums of money to an organiser you haven't verified
Online safety
- Only communicate with other users through Meetley's in-app chat — don't move to WhatsApp or phone calls prematurely
- Be cautious of users who ask for money, gift cards, or financial favours
- Report profiles that seem fake, suspicious, or use stock photos
- Never share OTP (one-time password) or verification codes with anyone
⚠ Red flags to watch for
Be cautious of anyone who refuses to meet in public, pressures you to share personal info quickly, asks for money before you've met, or has no reviews or profile history on the app. Report such profiles immediately.
For event organisers
- Be honest and accurate in your event descriptions — misleading people is a violation of our Terms
- Set clear expectations for attendees (cost, location, activity type)
- Moderate your event group chat and remove anyone being disrespectful
- Have a plan for emergencies at your event
- Report no-shows or troublesome attendees using the post-event rating system
See something? Report it.
If you encounter behaviour that makes you or others feel unsafe, report it directly in the app or contact us immediately. We take all reports seriously.
